Acting!

There is a special magic that surrounds puppet and figure theatre. Something happens on stage that can hardly be true. The puppeteer brings dead objects to live and tells a story. Theatre always is an illusion, a reflection of reality and fantasy. While in a drama humans play characters, sculptures made from lifeless materials such as wood, paper or fabric come to life on stage. They turn from passive objects into a self-determined subjects.

text1

To tell stories on stage, different kinds of puppets such as marionettes, glove puppets and rod puppets were created in over two thousand years. However, new techniques of play and forms were especially developed in recent decades. Originating in the rod puppet, the table-top puppet was created. The Guckkasten behind the puppeteers once hid, can now be omitted. The illusion of the play is not disturbed. The human dissolves behind the well-played puppet that attracts all the attention.

The exhibition takes a look behind the props, introduces techniques of play and even reveals some tricks. The visitor can try if he pursues a stage career or works as a technician mastering the elements on stage.
